What is it about?

This population-based longitudinal cohort study was conducted on adults with neuromuscular disease (NMD) using hospital diagnostic and health insurance billing codes. The aim of this study was to quantify the utilization of health services such as monitoring and treatment of NMD, identifying practice variations, and adherence to guideline recommendations in adults at a population level.

Why is it important?

Our findings showed that one-third of adults with NMD got specialist care at the same frequency which was suggested by the guidelines. however, we also discovered a lot of variation in this finding. The findings also showed that immediate healthcare utilization was substantial, thus emphasizing the burden of NMD on the healthcare system and the need to improve the community and social support groups for patients.
