What is it about?
Physical inactivity is common in asthma, particularly among individuals with severe disease. It is increasingly recognised that physical inactivity is an important modifiable risk-factor for poor clinical outcomes such as impaired asthma control and quality of life. Despite evidence supporting the role of physical activity in reducing risk, however, there are currently no clearly defined physical activity prescription guidelines for asthma. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was therefore to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions aiming to increase PA in adults with severe asthma on PA outcomes, and to explore the optimal type, intensity, duration and frequency needed to improve PA, as well as health- and asthma-related outcomes in severe asthma.
