What is it about?

There has long been a difference in survival between men and women with cystic fibrosis where women are disadvantaged. This review provides a comprehensive overview of what is known in the literature about hormonal differences between men and women and how estrogen and progesterone might contribute to differences in inflammation and infection. Specific discussion also focuses on how the menstrual cycle and pregnancy might influence sputum bacterial load and pulmonary exacerbations.
