Lung function in young adulthood: differences between males and females with asthma

What is it about?

Individuals with asthma are at risk for lower lung function later in life. We investigated lung function in early adulthood in males and females with asthma during childhood and/or adolescence. We found males with asthma or a history of asthma to have more affected lung function in early adulthood than females. In females, in contrast to males, the association between asthma and lower lung function was attenuated or disappeared after adjustment for known risk factors.
