Relationship between biomarkers and findings on low-dose computed tomography in hospitalised patients with acute exacerbation of COPD

What is it about?

Chest-X-ray underestimates the presence of CAP in AECOPD. We therefor performed a trial in which patients with AECOPD had an aditional low-dose CT-thorax. Radiological Findings were correlated with three biomarkers (CRP, procalcitonin and Serum Amyloid A). All three biomarkers where significantly higher in the group with additional radiological abnormalities however none of the biomarkers where able to reliable detect or exclude these changes.
