What is it about?

Long-term respiratory impairment is a common complication in survivors born prematurely. These respiratory diseases are still identified using definitions of bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Our review summarises the long-term respiratory outcomes of neonatal respiratory therapies, and the shortcomings of using bronchopulmonary dysplasia to define them. A new approach, comprising standardized and validated outcome measures that can be performed in early life is needed to predict chronic respiratory disease in premature babies.
