What is it about?
Awake Proning (AP) is a simple technique to help improve oxygenation in hospitalized COVID19 patients. It simply involves patients lying flat on their tummy for more than 8 hours a day. This observational study shows a moderate effect and improved outcomes with respect to the length of stay in patients tolerating as compared to those that did not.

Why is it important?
This intervention is important as it is easy and efficient to implement, it is generally well-tolerated, and can be very effective.
Perspectives
This trial was done at a time when there was little evidence for any interventions in COVID19. The preliminary evidence that Awake Proning could improve outcomes appeared promising. There is now currently ongoing investigation with randomized control trials to further strengthen the evidence in this area.
