What is it about?

All donor lungs have certain degree of injury. EVLP (ex vivo lung perfusion) provides an opportunity to improve donor lung quality and quantity. In this study, we used transcriptomics to find molecular mechanisms for this purpose.

Why is it important?

Acute inflammatory responses and cell death are mechanisms shared be schema-reperfusion injury and EVLP. We propose to develop therapies during EVLP to reduce these signals. This will improve donor lung performance.

Perspectives

Using tools for drug discovery to find targets, use cell culture models to screen them, then use animal models to test selected therapeutics, and eventually leads to clinical application.
