What is it about?

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a frequent, incurable and progressive lung disease mostly caused by long-lasting smoke inhalation. Guidelines recommend multiple effective treatments for COPD but the comprehensive administration of these treatments is complex to organise for general practitioners. The question is whether quality of care for COPD in general practice could be increased using a disease management aid that supports the administration of guideline-recommended treatments. In this randomized controlled study in general practice, we found that a disease management aid for COPD increased the quality of care in comparison with care as usual.
