What is it about?

The aim of this randomised controlled trial was to assess the effectiveness of a 9-month outside the hospital exercise program as a treatment for moderate OSA (defined by reaching an AHI<15 at follow-up). We demonstrated that this program, including 3h of exercise per week was an effective therapy in patients with moderate OSA since almost sixty percent of the patients reached an AHI <15 in response to exercise. We found a 4.1 AHI reduction with exercise in intention to treat analysis which reached 6.2 events/h in per protocol analysis. Thus, we thought that out-hospital physical activity ought to be part of baseline care and long-term management of mild and moderate OSA, particularly in obese patients in which the benefits were higher.
