What is it about?
Not all patients who experience acute pulmonary embolism recover their lung perfusion completely. Patients with residual pulmonary vascular obstruction may have persistent symptoms and are at risk for further complications. In two separate colors of patients with acute pulmonary embolism, fibrinogen Bβ-chain monosialylation, which is a common structural attribute of fibrin, helped predict residual pulmonary vascular obstruction. Our findings suggest that fibrin structure may contribute to the risk of developing residual pulmonary vascular obstruction.
