What is it about?
This study is an epidemiological update regarding the prevalence of lung diseases in persons living with HIV (PLHIV) hospitalized in France, analyzing the prevalence of lung disease in the huge number of 52,091 PLHIV hospitalized in France between 2007 and 2013. Among PLHIV hospitalized with lung disease, non-infectious lung diseases increased significantly between 2007 and 2013 whereas the proportion of patients with at least one infectious lung disease decreased significantly. In 30- 49-year-olds, HIV infection was associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic respiratory failure, emphysema, lung fibrosis, and pulmonary arterial hypertension. A mass screening in this population is justified.
