What is it about?
We tested whether pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukaemia cells respond directly to interleukin-15, a signalling protein previously linked to leukaemia and central nervous system disease. IL-15 increased cell proliferation and raised expression of molecules involved in CNS homing. Blocking MEK/ERK, PI3K or NF-kB signalling reduced these growth effects.

Why is it important?
Central nervous system involvement remains a major challenge in childhood leukaemia. Understanding how IL-15 supports leukaemia-cell growth and trafficking identifies biological pathways that can be investigated as biomarkers or treatment targets.
Perspectives
From my perspective, this work matters because Central nervous system involvement remains a major challenge in childhood leukaemia. I hope the findings support further research and informed, evidence-based decisions.
