What is it about?
When described from Peru it was placed in Grimmia, but re-evaluation suggested that it belonged in the genus Jaffueliobryum. Its current name is Jaffueliobryum williamsii.

Why is it important?
In Jaffueliobryum, the species was considered a synonym of J. wrightii. However, the absence of a leaf hair and a partly bistratose leaf blade separate it from that species.
