What is it about?
Epidemics of febrile illnesses (fever) are often associated with the rainy season in the tropics. This study examined the possibility of other causes of fever during a dengue outbreak in Jamaica.

Why is it important?
This study is important because cases of other diseases could be missed if there is no suspicion of their simultaneous occurrence. In this context, leptospirosis and malaria should be considered as causes of fever during epidemics of dengue in endemic areas.
