What is it about?
The publication shows that different raw materials such as ore (chromite, manganese ore etc.) require different temperatures for reduction in the submerged-arc furnace. The distribution of various charge materials on the top of the charge bed is rationalised to control the degree of reduction of various materials. This can reduce specific power consumption and enhance recovery.

Why is it important?
This concept has been tested in industries and found to reduce specific power consumption, reduce specific coke consumption and enhance recovery of metallic values in the production of ferro alloys in submerged-arc furnace.
