What is it about?
Large programs and projects require much coordination, especially if there is high uncertainty on how tasks should be performed, if tasks depend on other tasks, and if many people are involved. Knowledge-work in large programmes is often challenging to organise. This article describes how coordinaton was achieved in a large software development programme using agile development methods, with 12 development teams.

Why is it important?
Large projects and programmes are critical for our society. IT projects are often conducted using agile approaches, and the work practices that have emerged in this field could also inform other types of projects and programmes.
Perspectives
This is a part of a larger study of development methods in large projects, based on a case study of the Perform programme for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. A thoroough description of the broader programme organisation can be found here: http://rdcu.be/tcT3
