Why is it important?
Simulation is a commonly-used teaching/learning method in health professions, especially in mastering performance and psychomotor skills. We noted a gap in the literature relative to using simulation in sonography for purposes other than improvement of psychomotor skills. This study demonstrates simulation also positively impacts "soft skills" such as communication and confidence.
Perspectives
I hope this article will inspire health professions programs to include simulation in their curricula. This study shows that providing experiences for learners to practice communication skills can promote greater confidence in areas that will benefit their practice.
