What is it about?
Osyris quadripartita is used in folk medicine in many areas of Ethiopia. We have performed this study for the first time to validate the folk medicine claim of the plant for treatment of diarrhea scientifically. We have used mice based animal models to confirm this claim.

Why is it important?
The extract showed a dose-dependent and significant reduction of volume of intestinal content in the enteropooling model at all tested doses and the observed results in 200 and 400 mg/kg were better than the standard drug, loperamide.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. This article would also serve as a base for finding new drugs with novel mechanism of action.
