This paper proposed an urban design system that can reduce inundation depth by up to about one-third by adjusting urban layout design, e.g., reorient buildings, adjust roads width and curvature, etc.

This paper establishes a link between geometric urban layout design and urban flooding, assist in designing improved flood-sensitive cities, and generate more realistic simulations of flooding in an urban environment.
