Why is it important?

Oral communications, particularly in these polarizing times, can be fraught with misunderstandings and resulting tensions. This classroom-tested experiential exercise is designed to enhance listening and critical thinking skills, slow the rush to judgement, and increase the likelihood of participants taking action in the presence of micro-invalidations related to ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. Instructors interested in exploring this topic further can use the supplemental materials supplied to expand upon important communication topics.

Perspectives

We felt MTR provided a useful outreach to instructors who wanted a non-threatening way to explore the issue of micro-invalidations.
