What is it about?
Many students start, but don't finish, science degrees in college. I review what we know about study skills--such as focusing learning on understanding more than memorizing--and different aspects of motivation--such as persisting at learning tasks--that predict who sticks with science and who leaves. I also review what we know about programs designed to help students stay in science.

Why is it important?
As a country, we lose huge numbers of talented students from science majors. If we could keep these students in science, they would bring important life experiences, perspectives, and creativity to solving important societal challenges.
