Why is it important?

This would help to understand the Jewish heritage of India and the rest of the world in a broader perspective. The Jews of Calcutta tried their utmost to keep in touch with the Diaspora Jewry in times of War and crisis

Perspectives

This is a timely input at a period when the world is witnessing a renewed wave of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel feelings. India hasbeen the only country in the world where the Jews were never persecuted. So the common Euro-American Jewish narrative of a race given to persecution and exile does not apply in the Indian context. India had not only provided a shelter to its Jewish inhabitants for 2,000 years but also provided a safe haven to European Jewish refugees fleeing the War and Holocaust.
