What is it about?

Muscular power tends to be pretty symetric between both lower extremities (difference less than 10%). We studied if this is also true for athletes who play soccer, which is considered a one leg dominant sport. In theory, these type of sports could increase the muscular power of the dominant leg over the non dominant side.

Why is it important?

Objectively measuring the muscular power helps to assess the rehabilitation of athletes/patients which had a lower extremity injury with secondary muscular imbalance. If an athlete which performs a one leg dominant sport gets injured, is it possible that his/her basal muscular balance has a larger difference among legs? If this is true, the target of the muscular rehabilitation could be modified. This study clarifies the answer to this question.

Perspectives

This study can impact on the lower limb muscular rehabilitation after an injury in athletes.
