What is it about?
The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the beliefs of EFL university instructors about teaching listening in integration with speaking in Ethiopia. The study used a convergent mixed-methods design to collect and analyze data concurrently and merge mixed findings. Both comprehensive and purposive sampling techniques helped to collect quantitative and qualitative data, respectively. The former gives an equal chance to be chosen but the latter provides the researchers to choose participants on purpose to get particular information. The results from the surveys illustrated EFL instructors at Hawassa University believe in the importance of using familiar topics, giving feedback, different types of knowledge, using real listening materials, and using technology for teaching listening integrated with speaking. Moreover, they believe some techniques are helpful for the integration of listening and speaking such as appropriate implementation of pre-, while, and post-listening stages. Contrast-wise, findings from interviews and observations, the study found that the instructors’ beliefs and their practices did not match each other. T
