What is it about?
Nobel laureate Aziz Sancar once said, "I don't believe in intelligence. We all, more or less, have the same level of intelligence. The only secret to success is hard work." emphasizing geniosity alone does not bring about success and this should be accompanied by one’s continued efforts to achieve something. However, it may be also true that the amount of perseverance and passion shown in doing something may depend on the type of the activity engaged. Moving from this assumption, this study investigated the possibility that one’s persistence in learning English might be linked to characteristics of the learning environment within language classrooms.

Why is it important?
The findings revealed that both instructional and non-instructional facets of learning environment were associated with students’ persistence and classroom physical conditions had the strongest role adding to persistence in learning English. Hence, this study provided the evidence for the presence of associations between the two main variables of concern, learning environment and student persistence.
