What is it about?

Parents are an important source of information for their children. This study examines how Latino parents messages about sexual health are perceived by their adolescent children on three different aspects: expertise or knowledge about the topic, trust in the parent, and accessibility or how available the parent is to the child.

Why is it important?

This study suggests that adolescents want their parents to provide fact- based answers to their questions and that parents can talk to their children early and openly, answering their child's questions about sexual health. Parents can also seek information from a doctors' office or community organization to help them become informed on the topic of sexual health.
