This article discusses the real life experiences of school counselors who lived through a school shooting.

Why is it important?
This article is important because minimum research has been done to explore school counselors' decision making and perceived expertness throughout a school shooting crisis. This study assists in providing meaning and understanding to school counselor practitioners and their collaborators in regards to the possible roles and responsibilities school counselors' may assume before, during and immediately after a school shooting event.
Perspectives
School shootings have unfortunately become more probable in today's society. It is important for school personnel to understand how their expertise may play a role in preventing, responding, and recovering from a school shooting. The study at hand is an attempt to spark and add to the national conversation for helping to promote safe and responsive schools through the role of the school counselor.
