What is it about?
Choosing between total hip arthroplasty and hip hemiarthroplasty for surgical management of femoral neck fractures is based on many factors and we have tried to elicit some of them in our retrospective analysis of the patient data from our institute. We found in addition to age, patient's pre-injury independent functional status and ASA grading played a statistically significant role in this decision.

Why is it important?
There has been evidence supporting both hemiarthroplasty and total hip arthroplasty for the management of femoral neck fractures but there is very little evidence regarding the same in Indian patients. We have tried to elicit the trend in our retrospective analysis of patient data from our institute.
Perspectives
We hope this article adds to the existing literature evidence for and against total hip arthroplasty in management of femoral neck fractures especially in the elderly population.
