Why is it important?

United States is lacking in regards to providing mental health screening of refugees. Refugees are at much greater risk of emotional and mental health distress due to pre- and post-migration experiences.

Perspectives

Poor physical and mental health can have a negative impact on adaptation and quality of life following resettlement. Countries providing resettlement opportunities to refugees have the responsibility to ensure overall health is being addressed upon resettlement. This includes mental well-being.
