What is it about?

To assess the effects of surgery on erectile dysfunction in PFUDD patients

Featured Image

Why is it important?

Though majority of the studies done till now shows that it is the pelvic trauma which leads to ED, there are some studies which have mentioned that surgery may increase the risk of ED. Further these studies have found neurogenic ED as the most common cause of ED. In this study, the correlation between erectile dysfunction and urethral defect length with requirement of different steps during E-E urethroplasty by progressive perineal approach was studied. It was found that as the urethral defect length increased with increased need of further steps during E-E urethroplasty, chances of ED- particularly vascular ED was increased which was not shown in other studies done till now.

Perspectives

This article may further increase the interest in research for evaluation of relationship between urethral defect length and different steps during E-E urethroplasty performed by progressive perineal approach with ED which is commonly seen in PFUDD patients.
