What is it about?

Tranexamic acid(TXA) , a synthetic antifibrinolytic drug, is effective as a treatment for serious hemorrhage. Significant acute gastrointestinal bleeding may have a poor outcome despite routine medical and endoscopic treatment. 410 patients with proven acute gastrointestinal bleeding received conventional therapy in addition to intravenous TXA with and without topical TXA . Urgent endoscopy rate was the lowest in patients that received both topical and intravenous TXA. . TXA can aid in changing an urgent endoscopy to an elective procedure, with better outcomes for both physicians and patients.

Why is it important?

Gastroenterologists have some problems with doing urgent endoscopy , according to adverse effect of sedation and doing difficult endoscopy .We can lower urgent endoscopy rate with adminesteration of TXA.

Perspectives

Control of acute significant gastrointestinal bleeding by medical and/or endoscopic treatment modalities can lower morbidity and mortality in this patients.
