What is it about?

Infections in young children have long been associated with the development of early atherosclerosis. Whether experienced infections in childhood play a role in adult clinical cardiovascular disease remains unclear. We investigated the association between infections in early life with the occurrence of premature coronary heart disease.

Our study confirms that experienced early-life infection is associated with early coronary heart disease in adulthood and may potentiate the effects of traditional CVD risk factors.
