What is it about?
We discovered that women with endometriosis and infertility have a much higher level of a protein, called BCL6, in their uterus.

Why is it important?
This molecule is likely important for two reasons: 1. There is, currently, no diagnostic test for endometriosis except surgery. The lack of such a test delays diagnosis in affected women and thwarts our ability to understand the disease process and develop new treatments. This inability is especially problematic as only humans and some non-human primates get the disease naturally, further limiting our ability to understand this disease. 2. The very close correlation between endometriosis-related infertility and the overabundance of this protein leads us to believe that BCL6 is directly involved in the disease process, and thus provides us with a new target at which to aim new treatments.
Perspectives
This work and forthcoming papers are exciting as we believe they will provide us with new ways to approach a very enigmatic and difficult to treat disease that affects about 5% of all reproductive age women.
