What is it about?
This article is a response to a study by two economists on the academic benefits of a gifted program. I welcome the perspective of outsiders on gifted programs and explain the positive contributions of the study to the field.

Why is it important?
Gifted education is often insular and isolated from other fields and perspectives. Having two economists investigate a gifted program strengthens the field and can make valuable contributions to program evaluation and curriculum development.
Perspectives
This was the first article that I was invited to write. The Card and Giuliano study that I responded to was methodologically strong, but contributed little to theory. I was thrilled that non-educators would take an interest in gifted education, and I hope it's not the last time that outsiders research gifted programs.
