What is it about?
The solution presented allows any researcher or (policy) analyst to demonstrate that the data that they are using in their analyses are genuine Eurostat data. An online user guide, providing an overview as well as step-by-step instructions, is provided at: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/user-guides/data-browser/blockchain-pilot

Why is it important?
This is arguably the first blockchain-based solution that tackles the issue of authenticable reproducibility of official statistics data, using EBSI (a blockchain managed by a European consortium) to ensure sound governance and minimal environmental impact - and minimal administrative burden for the statistical office implementing the solution.
Perspectives
For the solution to be rolled out in production (and thus provided at a permanent basis), feedback by researchers and analysts using Eurostat data is crucial. Once the solution has been tried out as per the step-by-step instructions at: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/user-guides/data-browser/blockchain-pilot/ensure-authenticable-reproducibility researchers and analysts are encouraged to complete the feedback form (also available as part of the user guide).
