What is it about?
A fracture at the back of the elbow (near the "funny bone") is often regarded as unstable and requiring surgery. We considered that this "requirement" might not be true in all circumstances. In the group of patients we treated without surgery, over 90% healed satisfactorily and those who later converted to surgical repair suffered no ill-effects from having first tried the non-surgical option.

Why is it important?
Not operating on this fracture is both a safety and cost benefit to the patient and society.
Perspectives
The message (not operating) is often "hard to sell". We experienced this in bringing this work thru peer review and greatly appreciate the journal's editor being willing to work with us. We hope that the message gains traction and that a comparative study is completed in the future.
