What is it about?
The paper outlines the process folowed to develop and implement an intervention aiming to encourage female sex workers to get tested regulary for HIV in specific and dedicated health care units in Benin. The intervention mapping protocol adapted from Bartholomew & al. (2006), structured in six steps was used to guide the developpement and implementation of the intervention. The needs assessment was conducted based on literature review and the a study based on theory of planned behavior from Ajzen (1991). The intervention includes activities for individual and environmental changes through various methods such as motivational counseling, peer education, persuasive communication, capacity building and reorganisation of clinical services...

The Intervention mapping (IM) framework helped to structure and implement a targeted intervention with transparency to adopt a healthy behavior among vulnerables populations. The evaluation showed the effectiveness of this intervention, confirming the usefulness of IM framework to optimize the success of health promotion programs
