What is it about?
Power systems are becoming increasingly complex and their reliable operation is more vital than ever for a society to function. This paper shows how weather affects reliability by applying a probabilistic risk assessment to the Icelandic power system.

Why is it important?
We show that such approaches to risk assessment may not only allow us to perform cost-benefit analyses on operational and planning decisions, but that failing to consider weather effects may skew the risk management approach of Transmission System Operators.
