Why is it important?

Physical inactivity is an increasing problem in developed countries and is placing a huge burden on individuals' health as well as healthcare resources. Activity levels are particularly low amongst obese adults. This review uses a robust methodology of rapid evidence appraisal, employing qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods studies in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the various barriers perceived by this population.

Perspectives

This study was carried out to fulfil my MSc Adult Nursing dissertation. I hope it adds to the knowledge base and helps health professionals in various roles to understand the complex barriers perceived by obese individuals, and allow them to devise focussed interventions to increase activity levels in this population.
