What is it about?

School administrators face numerous ethical dilemmas in their work of academic administration. This paper is a qualitative inquiry of the ethical dilemmas experienced by a select group of Filipino college deans. Using semi-structured in-depth interviews, data collected yielded themes and subthemes typifying what these deans consider to be ethical dilemmas.

Why is it important?

Findings of our study provide valuable resource to practicing and potential academic deans to be more adept in identifying the ethical and moral dimension of their work as academic administrators. The findings could also serve as knowledge base for curriculum designers in crafting ethics courses offered in educational leadership programs.

Perspectives

The need for ethics in business and management practice cannot be overemphasized. School administrators therefore have to be cognizant that educational administration has an ethical and moral dimension. Just like any manager in business, school administrators need to integrate ethical considerations in their management decisions. In order to be competent leaders, they need to have professional training in ethics to develop moral awareness and ethical decision making skills.
