What is it about?
In this work, we present the design and FEM validation of a new hinge for the deployment of solar panels in CubeSat nanosatellites, which features a self-locking system for the final (deployed) position of the solar panels.

Why is it important?
In its important because current deployment mechanisms for solar panels in CubeSats lack of this final blocking, which induces undesired vibrations and might hinder the attitude control of the satellite.
Perspectives
This work open the perspective to build more reliable deployment mechanisms for solar panels for CubeSats.
