What is it about?
In 318 midlife adults, we assessed the relationships between indicators of endothelial inflammation and function with the Life's Essential 8 (LE8) score - a metric comprised of eight factors related to cardiovascular and metabolic health. We found that better LE8 scores related to less endothelial inflammation (ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 concentrations) and greater arterial dilation in response to blood flow (assessed using venous occlusion plethysmography).

Why is it important?
Few studies have compared LE8 to multiple indicators of subclinical atherosclerosis, with virtually none specifically targeting endothelial function/dysfunction. The current study looks to add to the growing body of literature incorporating LE8 guidelines into the assessment of subclinical CVD.
