What is it about?

Young gay and bisexual Black men are at high risk for negative health outcomes. We conducted a broad review and content analysis of health-related research among this population. We found that researchers have largely focused on sex/sexuality to the neglect of other critical health domains, such as bullying suicide, identity development, health care, tobacco/substance use, and race-based discrimination.

Why is it important?

There is ample opportunity and a substantial need for researchers to examine a wide range of health issues among young gay and bisexual Black men. Our study draws attention to a number of specific topics that need to be addressed in the health literature.

Perspectives

This article serves as an important foundation for my own research agenda, as I am able to clearly identify gaps in the literature that I want to fill. It is my hope that other researchers can identify areas of interest that they would like to address, in order to start building a more robust literature base on the health needs of this population.
