What is it about?

Instructions to authors is a section given in the journals to facilitate the submission of a manuscript. This paper discusses various components recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) for the conduct, reporting, editing and the publication of scholarly work submitted to a biomedical journal. We studied 71 journals among which 53 journals adhered to the ICMJE guidelines.

Why is it important?

Instructions to authors is one of the many means to advocate Responsible Conduct of Research. The editorial process is the last gate keeper and can prevent the publication that has poor conduct. The paper discusses the shortfalls of the journals in providing the instructions to authors.
