It is important because it allows comparison of user experience, and thus evaluation of game design, across game media: i.e. board games and video games

Perspectives

With User Experience studies having skipped over board games and dealt with video games straight away, this brings back board games into the area of research, just in time with the revival of board games in the Western Culture
