What is it about?

Prison educators' perceptions of critical learning moments among their students is interpreted in light of Mezirow's theory of transformative learning. Attributes of prison educators who enhance such significant learning are also analyzed.

Why is it important?

There's little empirical work regarding prison educators, and less that is interpreted in light of a valuable theory of learning and development. This article addresses that gap.

Perspectives

We hope prison educators and those who oversee and support their work will use the findings of this article to understand better the kind of pedagogical choices they can support.
