Why is it important?

Findings expand the occupational science literature on co-occupation, importance of creating a community for individuals with spinal cord injury, importance of wellness centers designed for individuals with spinal cord injury, and how interactions with each other at the center provided them with a place to go (community) where they could be supported and accepted and provided them with a sense of hope.

Perspectives

Participating in meaningful occupations is central to promoting well-being. Opportunities to participate in wellness occupations are limited for individuals with spinal cord injury. All individuals have the right to be healthy and well and access to these opportunities should be available. Providing a place for individuals with spinal cord injury to be healthy, to interact, and to support one another provides them with an opportunity to by physically, socially, and mentally healthy and well .
