What is it about?

The study examines the relationship between artificial light at night exposure habits and breast cancer risk. Short wave length illumination as LED or Fluorescent bulbs can inhibit Melatonin secretion ant therefore increases Breast Cancer risk. In this study we present that past exposures may influence our present Breast Cancer risk

Why is it important?

Our findings show that light and sleeping habits in the past can increase/decrease breast cancer risk in the present. longer sleep may reduce BC risk, using bed light illumination and sleeping with closed shutters may also reduce BC risk. However, living near strong illumination sources may increase BC risk.

Perspectives

In my opinion, this study demonstrates that an individual can have an impact on his/her health. That is to say, regarding light exposure at night we should choose to sleep in maximum darkness and in accordance with the natural light/dark hours, allowing the body to function optimally and decreasing BC risk. Therefore, we should avoid prolonged viewing of computer, TV or mobile phones during the dark hours.
