What is it about?

Examines how the faculty review system perpetuates the corporatization of higher education. Suggests that faculty members can confront the commodification of knowledge by refusing to play the game.

Why is it important?

As higher education becomes more corporatized, the sanctity of academic knowledge becomes threatened. We need to take seriously the role that higher education plays in society, particularly its responsibilities for knowledge and helping to solve the most pressing problems of the globe today.

Perspectives

I wrote this piece to help make two pivots in the conversation about neoliberalism and corporatism in higher education. 1) I want to re-direct attention to the consequences for knowledge - what counts, what gets produced, how it can be generated. And 2) I want to explore how posthumanist thought can help bridge our understandings of the role that the academic knowledge imperative might play in society, and what might be at stake.
